Apache 200 Expert Review
Overview
The TVS Apache RTR 200 4V is popular among bike enthusiasts who want higher power and more features over a conventional 150-160cc motorcycle. This premium 200cc motorcycle from TVS offers an exciting blend of sporty design, premium features, and powerful performance, all at a not-so-high price premium over 160cc commuters.
Design
The TVS Apache RTR 200 4V sports a sharp and dynamic look with race-inspired graphics, sleek panels, and an aggressive fascia featuring an all-LED headlamp. For added sportiness, the Apache RTR 200 4V also gets clip-on handlebars, split seats and split pillion grab rails. It also gets a fancy-looking double barrel design for the exhaust.
Engine, Mileage & Performance
Powered by a single-cylinder, air/oil-cooled, 197.75cc engine, the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V has slightly improved power and torque output over its other 160-180cc models in the Apache lineup. There are three riding modes in the Apache RTR 200 4V—Sport, Urban, and Rain—that are selectable using the mode-selector switch on the handlebar.
In Sport mode, this engine delivers 20.82PS @ 9000 rpm of maximum power and 17.25Nm @ 7250 rpm of maximum torque. On the other hand, the engine produces 17.32PS @7800 rpm of maximum power and 16.51Nm @5750 rpm of maximum torque in the Rain and Urban riding modes.
The Apache RTR 200 4V accelerates rapidly and can reach high speeds with lower effort than the usual 160cc sports commuters. This near-200cc engine also boasts robust low-end power and impressive performance at higher speeds.
There is a 5-speed transmission on offer as standard. Some riders may feel the lack of a sixth gear, which would have enabled prolonged and more comfortable cruising at higher speeds on the highway.
The TVS Apache RTR 200 4V delivers impressive mileage, with real-world tested figures of 50.7 kmpl in city conditions and 42.58 kmpl on highways.
Handling & Ride Quality
The TVS Apache RTR 200 4V's preload-adjustable telescopic fork suspension at the front and a preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear offer great adjustability for riders of different weights. But these are set a bit on the stiffer side for sporty handling, so when riding over bad roads, riders will tend to feel the bumps. The bike’s braking system, featuring a 270mm disc brake at the front and a 240mm rear disc brake, provides good stopping power. It is complemented with dual-channel ABS to improve safety when braking of loose or slippery surfaces.
Comfort
The split seat of the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V are well-padded, providing decent comfort for short rides. However, the pillion seat is slightly higher, which can lead to mild discomfort for shorter people. The sportier suspension setup gives it an exciting ride experience, whether you are weaving through city traffic or riding around winding roads. However, the ride quality feels a bit harsh, especially over potholes and speed breakers.
Features
The TVS Apache RTR 200 4V packs several features, such as a fully digital instrument panel with Bluetooth connectivity for navigation and call and message alerts. The Apache RTR 200 4V also has a slipper clutch, which makes for a light clutch action and ensures that the rear wheel doesn’t lock up when downshifting rapidly. The RLP (Real wheel Lift-off Protection) control is a special feature that offers better control and safety, as it ensures that the rear wheel doesn’t lift off the ground when braking hard.
Should you buy
If you want a power-packed motorcycle that looks sporty but is not priced too high, the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V is a good option. Its unique blend of performance with best-in-segment features makes it a genuine alternative to sporty 160cc motorcycles.

- Apache 200 4V
Good bike with better performance, in the milage it's not good, best for short rides, and not preferable for long rides. It's a good bike which I have bought in 2018, when it's compared to recent updated bikes it's really mismatch for others, the looks are good. I am feeling some way to have this but currently regarding the milage I am not ok with it.Read More
