[UPDATE: 2020 Triumph Street Triple R Launched In India, head here to check it out.]
The Street Triple R sits below the top-spec RS variant
- It features the same design language as the Triple RS.
- Packs a Euro 5/BS6-compliant 765cc motor which makes 118PS and 77Nm.
- It comes with a bi-directional quick-shifter as standard.
If you didn’t already know, British bike maker Triumph offers three variants of the Street Triple overseas: ‘S’, ‘R’ and ‘RS’. The latter being the most brutal of the lot. The Street Triple S, which is A2 licence friendly, won’t be making its way to India. The Triple RS is already available in the Indian market, which leaves out the mid-spec variant. Our sources now suggest that the Street Triple R will be launched in India this month. It gets the same design language as the RS but features a black paint job and a BS6-compliant 765cc that produces slightly less power.
To put things into perspective, the Street Triple R uses a retuned 765cc motor that makes 118PS of peak power and a maximum torque of 77Nm. That’s a 5PS deficit compared to the RS’ power output of 123PS. It also makes 2Nm less torque than the top-spec RS. It uses the same 6-speed transmission with a bi-directional quick-shifter as standard.
The Street Triple R also differs from the RS in terms of underpinnings. While it uses the same aluminium twin-spar frame and a 41mm upside-down fork from Showa, it gets a slightly lower spec monoshock (also from Showa). Both units are fully adjustable. The RS, on the other hand, features a fully-adjustable Ohlins STX40 shock at the rear.
It’s a similar story with the braking components. While both bikes feature radial calipers sourced from Brembo, the Street Triple R gets the M4.32 version instead of the M50. That said, the diameter of the discs at the front and the back are the same as the RS -- 310mm up front and 220mm at the rear. The new Street Triple R also gets a Low Ride Height option with a 45mm lower seat (compared to the standard model) which is achieved by lowering the suspension.
On the feature front, the Street Triple R comes with the same old semi-digital instrument console that’s seen on the previous-gen model. You have three ride modes to choose from - Road, Rain and Sport.

Considering the design updates and features, we expect the 2020 Triumph Street R to be priced around Rs 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom). This will put it up against the Kawasaki Z900, KTM 790 Duke, Yamaha MT-09 and the Ducati Monster 821.
