The new Triumph Street Triple RS which was unveiled a couple of days ago is on its way to India and will be launched as early as January 2020. The bug-eyed streetfighter features some crucial updates for the upcoming year, from cosmetic changes to a greener, more powerful engine. It’s set to take on the likes of the recently launched KTM 790 Duke which has been raining hellfire on its competition.
Triumph claims that the motor on the 2020 Street Triple RS has been tuned to produce a meatier mid-range while retaining top-end performance. Essentially, 79Nm (up by 2Nm) of torque is now delivered 1450rpm earlier than before. Also, the first two gear ratios have also been shortened to allow the bike to get off the line quicker.
On the styling front, the bike features redesigned side panels, seat cowl, belly pan and flyscreen which gives it a fresh new appeal. Other notable changes include sleeker twin-LED bug-eyed headlights running LED DRLs strips that mimic an angry face. The air intake has been redesigned as well along with the addition of a new carbon fibre insert at the exhaust end cap, showcasing the attention to detail.
The full-colour TFT display has been updated as well. It now features Bluetooth connectivity along with GoPro integration. It also allows the user to connect to the MyTriumph app to access a truckload of information about the bike. That’s not all, the Triple RS gets a bi-directional quickshifter and the five rider modes have been tweaked to match the engine’s new characteristics. Other updates include grippier Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP V3 tyres.
Its suspension setup which includes 41mm Showa ‘big-piston’ forks and an Öhlins STX40 fully adjustable rear monoshock has been carried over from the outgoing model. So has the Brembo M50 monobloc front brake calipers.
Considering the above-mentioned updates, we could expect the 2020 Street Triple RS to be priced around Rs 12 lakh, which is a small increment over the current-gen model which retails at Rs 11.13 lakh (ex-showroom India).
