After Aprilia, Piaggio Planning to Introduce Moto Guzzi in India

After having a successful entry in the Indian two-wheeler market via Scooter segment, Piaggio is now planning to introduce its Italian motorcycle brand Moto Guzzi in India. The Italian brand will debut with a 1200cc Gran-Turismo bike. Moto Guzzi is a fully owned subsidiary of Piaggio including the famous Aprilia, Derbi and a few more to name. Piaggio had shared its plans to introduce Moto Guzzi in India with the 1200 Norge GT, a tourer bike at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. Piaggio is planning to bring this bike in India as a completely built unit (CBU).

The Norge 1200 was launched in 2005 globally, the bike is known for enhanced comfort, performance and handling. The Norge sports a 1134cc, two-cylinder, DOHC, V-oriented engine, which cranks out a maximum power of 102bhp and torque of 104Nm. Moto Guzzi has a wide range of bikes and most of them have a V-oriented engine. There is a noticeable growth has been seen in the Sports motorcycle market in India in past few years, which is growing up with the likes of Honda, KTM, Yamaha and others. Moto Guzzi should be yet another one but its CBU entry may restrict its sales in India.

Aprilia another Piaggio owned brand of supersport bikes is already in India, and the Italian bike-maker is trying hard to make it more successful in India. For this, the company is planning to set up more Aprilia outlets for both sale and servicing. Aprilia also imports all its bike including flagship model 1000cc superbike RSV Mille and the RSV4 along with the whole range of the naked bikes Tuono V4 R, Dorsoduro 1200, tourer Mana 850 and the automatic scooter, SRV 850 which comes with ABS. Piaggio knows that the way of success in Indian market goes through mass segment bike, thus they are also planning to launch smaller bikes under Aprilia brand in the Indian market ranging in capacity from 125cc to 800cc.
