It gets more range than the Chetak Urbane variant but a lower top speed
Bajaj Auto has just expanded the Chetak lineup, launching the Bajaj Chetak 2901, which is now the most affordable Chetak scooter at Rs 95,998 (ex-showroom Bengaluru including EMPS 2024, which stands for Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme 2024). This makes it Rs 27,321 and Rs 51,245 more affordable than the Bajaj Chetak Urbane and Premium variants respectively. The Chetak 2901 will be available in dealerships from June 15, 2024 onwards.
So, what’s different on this scooter compared to the others? It gets a 2.88kWh battery pack, whereas the Urbane and the Premium variants get 2.9kWh and 3.2kWh capacity batteries respectively. The Bajaj Chetak 2901 gets an ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India) claimed range of 123km, top speed of 63kmph and takes 6 hours to charge the battery from 0-100%. It gets four new colour options: Azure Blue, Ebony Black(MET), Racing Red and Lime Yellow, while the Cyber White paint scheme can be seen on the Urbane variant as well.
The electric scooter gets the same colour-LCD instrument console and an Economy riding mode. If you opt for the TecPac for an extra Rs 3,000, then you get an extra riding mode called Sports, Bluetooth connectivity for call and music control, hill hold assist, reverse mode and Follow Me Home lights.
Similar to the Urbane variant, the Chetak 2901 gets a single-sided link type front suspension and a monoshock while braking duties are taken care of by drum brakes at both ends. Its rivals are the Ola S1 X, Ather Rizta S, TVS iQube (2.2kWh) and the Vida V1 Plus.
The addition of the more affordable Chetak 2901 in Bajaj Chetak’s lineup enables Bajaj to better compete with TVS, Ola Electric and Ather 450S, whose portfolio already contains a range of affordable, mid-spec and top-end variants. And the Bajaj Chetak range is one of the highest-selling electric scooters in India. So, the Chetak 2901 will surely add into those numbers.
