This is the most affordable Honda motorcycle on sale
Honda has finally launched the 100cc commuter in India, christened the Shine 100. This is the most affordable offering from the Japanese marque, and aims to take on the lion’s share of the Hero Splendor Plus’ market.
The Honda Shine 100 has been launched with an introductory price of Rs 64,900. This makes it Rs 7520 more affordable than the Hero Splendor Plus which comes with a price tag of Rs 72,420 for the base variant. That said, the 100cc segment’s most affordable offering is the Hero HF100 priced at Rs 54,962 (all prices ex-showroom Mumbai).
The Honda Shine is powered by an all-new 100cc single-cylinder engine making 7.6PS and 8.05Nm. For perspective, the Hero Splendor produces 8PS and 8.05Nm from its 97.2cc engine. Just like with other Honda products, the Shine 100’s engine this one too gets piston-cooling oil jet, and offset piston. Furthermore, there’s a start solenoid with automatic choke system for hassle-free starts in all weather conditions.
Honda has used a diamond frame, suspended onto a telescopic fork and twin shock absorbers. For braking, the Japanese brand has opted to go with drum brakes at both ends with combined braking system. The Honda Shine 100 gets a tight turning radius of 1.9m, and its 786mm seat height makes it accessible for riders of all sizes. And with 168mm ground clearance, you won’t have to worry about bad roads either.
Aesthetically, the Honda Shine 100 is like any run-of-the-mill commuter. In fact, it looks a lot like the 125cc Shine. To save production costs, there’s halogen illumination all around, and basic dual-pod instrument console. This commuter has been launched in five colours with black base paint and different coloured liveries.
Though the price is introductory, the Honda Shine 100 has been priced aggressively. It slots right between the Hero HF100 and the Hero Splendor Plus. Will that help Honda dethrone the Hero commuters? Well, Honda already makes India’s highest-selling scooter, the Activa, and the Shine 100 has the potential to do the same in the motorcycle segment.
