The Auto Expo is sure to be a treat for bike enthusiasts with international motorcycle giants gearing up to use it as a launchpad of their global models. One such giant is British bike maker Triumph which along with its fresh Bonneville line, is also bringing its retro-styled cafe racers, the Thruxton and Thruxton R.
Triumph recently revealed its 2016 lineup and seeing the response to these new bikes, it won’t be a surprise to see the Triumph stand at the venue brimming with fans. Let’s find out what these two modern day retro machines have to offer.
The new Thruxton gets a 1200cc engine developing peak torque of 112Nm at 4,950 rpm. The power figure for this machine will be revealed by the company at the Expo. Next in line is the fully-specced Thruxton R, which takes the Thruxton and turns it into a race-ready machine. The new Thruxton R comes shod with Showa upside down forks up front, Brembo Monobloc radially mounted callipers and a fully-adjustable Ohlins rear shock set. For absolute tractability and comfort, the new Thruxton R will come equipped with Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa tyres. Both these cafe racers have two ride modes in common, but the R version gets a special third mode to up the ante.
The Thruxton and Thruxton R’s motor is an eight-valve parallel-twin affair, while the dedicated chassis is set up for sporty handling. Both versions have clip-on bars, fully-adjustable suspension and aluminium rims and swing-arm. The Thruxton R also sports a polished top yoke, aluminium tank strap and clear anodised aluminium swing-arm and comes in black, white with a black tank stripe or 'competition green' with a metallic gold tank stripe - our pick to truly round out the retro Brit racer look. The Thruxton R, meanwhile, has red and silver colour options.
