Both bikes are entry level offerings in their respective families

Italian motorcycle maker Ducati will be launching two models in the country- the Multistrada 950 and the Monster 797, on June 14. The Monster 797 will be the least expensive product in the Monster family and so will be the Multistrada 950 in the Multistrada range. Also read: Ducati Diavel Diesel Edition Launched
The Monster 797 shares its powerplant with the Ducati Scrambler. The 803cc L-twin engine in the Monster produces 74.7PS of power at 8250rpm and 68.9Nm of torque 5750rpm (up by 0.9Nm over the Scrambler). Though the Monster 797 makes about 37.3PS less than its bigger brother, the Monster 821, the bike is aimed to be more accessible for entry level premium bike buyers. Cycle parts like the tyres and suspension are carried over from the Monster 821 to maintain the streetfighter character. The bike tips the scales at 175kg, making it 4.5kg lighter than the 821.
Though the Multistrada 950 follows the design philosophy of the Multistrada family, Ducati has made sure that the bike looks less intimidating than the 1200cc versions. Powering this bike is the same 937cc L-twin engine which does duty in the Hypermotard. But the cylinder heads of the engine are revised and the powerplant makes about 113PS of power at 9000rpm and 96.2Nm of torque at 7750rpm (down by 1Nm over the Hypermotard). Suspension duties are taken care by adjustable 48mm KYB inverted forks at the front while the rear is equipped with an adjustable Sachs monoshock. The bike is anchored by twin 320mm Brembo discs up front and a 265mm disc at the rear. Both the brakes are ABS-enabled. The 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels are shod with Pirelli Scorpion Trail II tyres. The Multistrada 950 promises to be an ideal bike for enthusiasts looking for a premium adventure motorcycle in a fair budget.
When launched, the Ducati Monster 797 will rival the likes of the Kawasaki Z650 and Benelli TNT 600i while the Multistrada 950 will lock horns with the Kawasaki Versys 1000, Triumph Tiger 800 and Suzuki V-Strom.
