Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Launched In India For Rs 16.50 Lakh Ex-Showroom, Check Performance, Features And Other Details

  • Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono has been launched in India
  • The announcement was shared via Ducati India’s social media handle
  • The bike comes at an ex-showroom price of Rs 16.50 lakh

Ducati India has launched the Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono in India for an ex-showroom price of Rs 16.50 lakh, with deliveries of the bike set to begin by the end of July, 2024. The bike is Ducati’s first single cylinder motorcycle since the Ducati Supermono 550, which was launched almost 30 years ago.

Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Price

The bike comes at an insane price of Rs 16.50 lakh as mentioned above, which makes it more costly than higher capacity offerings from Ducati.

For example, the Ducati Hypermotard 950 RVE starts at an ex-showroom price of Rs 16,00,500 and the Ducati Monster SP which comes with a price tag of Rs 15.95 lakh (ex-showroom), making the 698 Mono Rs 49,500 more expensive than the 950 RVE and Rs 55,000 more than the Monster SP.

The extremely expensive price tag is a result of the bike coming via the CBU route from Italy and Thailand. Since the bike’s engine capacity is less than 800cc, it also doesn’t get tax exemption that is provided for bikes under the India-Thailand free trade agreement (FTA).

Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Design

The 698 Mono has a typical supermoto bike-like look with the raised front fender, long travel suspension, a single piece seat and smaller wheels. The bike looks quite good and is sure to attract attention.

Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Engine

The bike is powered by a 659cc, liquid-cooled Superquadro Mono single cylinder engine that produces 77.5PS at 9,750rpm and 63Nm at 8,000rpm. This makes the 698 Mono the most powerful single cylinder bike today. For perspective, its closest competitor, the KTM 690 SMC R makes 74.7PS and 73.5Nm.

The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox, with a slipper clutch. The RVE variant of the bike also gets a bi-directional quickshifter as standard, whereas it only comes as an optional accessory on the standard variant.

Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Underpinnings

It is built on a tubular steel trellis frame and is suspended on a fully-adjustable 45mm Marzocchi inverted fork and a fully-adjustable Sachs monoshock. It rolls on 17-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels with a Y design, at both ends, with Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres. Braking duties are handled by a 330mm disc up front and a 245mm disc at the rear. It gets 4-level Bosch cornering ABS as standard as well.

To top it all off, the bike is very light, with its wet weight without fuel coming at 151kg. Even with the fuel, the bike only weighs around 159kg which is as light as a 160cc bike like the Bajaj Pulsar N160.

Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Features

In terms of features, the bike does have quite a bit to offer. It comes with a 3.8-inch negatively lit LCD instrument console that displays readouts like speed, tachometer readings, time, odometer and tripmeter readouts. The bike also gets 3 power modes: High, Medium and Low.

In the high power mode, the bike’s full power of 77.5 PS is available with a quick throttle response, this mode is specifically for track use. The medium mode also offers full power but with a more linear throttle response. The Low power mode restricts the bike’s power output to 58PS and offers a slower throttle response.

Other than power modes, the bike also gets 4 riding modes: Sport, Road, Urban and Wet. Ducati has also added additional electronic riding aids such as a traction control system, a 4-level wheelie control, Engine Brake Control, and Ducati Power Launch.

With its high price of 16.50 lakh, the bike automatically becomes a very niche product which might attract only a few enthusiasts. This is considering that at a similar price range you would get a lot more powerful and multi-cylinder motorcycles promising a lot of fun.
