Exclusive: KTM 250 Adventure Spotted For The First Time In India

The 250 Adventure will be KTM’s smallest offering in the Adventure segment

• New end-can suggests it will be BS6-compliant.
• USD fork misses out on adjustable suspension.
• Could be priced around Rs 2.30 lakh to Rs 2.50 lakh.

KTM could be working on a family of small capacity adventure motorcycles as the 250 Adventure has been spotted for the first time on our Indian roads. It is unlikely that KTM will go down the displacement game for its adventure motorcycles after the 250 Adventure and hence the possibility of a 200 Adventure or a 125 Adventure are very slim. We can expect KTM to take the wraps off the 250 Adventure, along with the 390 Adventure, at the 2019 EICMA motor show. Or the company could hold the launch of the 250 Adventure launch for next year and focus its attention on the 390 Adventure, which will make its India debut by late 2019, instead.

Both the 390 and the 250 Adventure will bear similar styling apart from a few different parts, just like their Duke siblings. For starters, the headlight unit on the 250 Adventure is a conventional halogen bulb while the 390 will get LED units. There is no flyscreen on the 250 Adventure, which is something the 390 gets. What does get carried over from the 390 Adventure on to the 250 Adventure is the colour TFT dash which should retain all the features that we have experienced on the 390 Duke. It’s also likely that the TFT screen might have navigation assist. 

The revised and upswept end-can with a larger cat-con unit suggests that the motorcycle is running a Euro 5/BS6-compliant engine. Currently, the 250 Duke is powered by a 248.8cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that makes 29.91PS and 24Nm. We do not quite know of the final output figures for the new BS6-compliant motor, but we are hoping that KTM has tweaked this highly peaky engine for better low- as well as mid-range punch for the Adventure model. 

Long travel suspension is a given, but the 250 Adventure seems to be missing out on an adjustable USD front fork. The component has been seen on the 390 Adventure but we figure that KTM has given it a miss for the 250 given that it has to play well in a cost-conscious markets like ours. Thankfully, it continues to run on a 19-/17-inch front/rear wheel setup as well as dual-purpose tyres like the 390 Adventure. The bike spotted testing also featured a dual-channel ABS setup. 

We expect that KTM to price this bike around Rs 2.50 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Stay tuned for more details on the 250 Adventure.
