Honda to Prepone Commission Date of Gujarat Plant

Due to the rising demand of two-wheelers in India, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has decided to prepone the commission date of their upcoming production facility in Vithalpur, near Ahmedabad, Gujarat. This is the fourth plant by the manufacturer in India and is the largest two-wheeler facility in the world (spread across 250 acres) with a production capacity of 1.2 million units. The company has invested a massive Rs. 1,100 crores in the plant. The operations in this facility were scheduled to begin at the end of March 2016 but now will begin from January end. Currently, Honda has three plants functional in Haryana, Rajasthan and Karnataka producing 16 lac, 12 lac and 18 lac units respectively. This plant will result in increased annual production, from 46 lac units to 58 lac units.

Honda has fulfilled its promise to bring 15 two-wheelers in India in the year 2015. The 15th offering by the Japanese manufacturer was CB Hornet 160R. It was launched on December 10 and is priced at Rs. 79,900 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Along with the standard variant, the bike is also available with dual disc and CBS variant. Also, the motorcycle is available in 5 colours - Neo Orange Metallic, Pearl Amazing White, Sports Red, Pearl Siren Blue and Pearl Nightstar Black. Speaking at the launch of CB Hornet 160R, Mr. Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice President - Sales and Marketing, HMSI, said, “In motorcycles, the 150cc-180cc segment has been gaining traction again. The customers belonging to this segment demand best performance without any compromise in styling which reflects their inherent aggressive go-getter attitude towards life. The unbeatable combination of raw power, real muscle and ripped performance in CB Hornet 160R will surely appeal & mirror their persona.”
