Austrian bike maker has unveiled the UK-bound KTM Duke 390 at 2012 EICMA, the bike is going to be launched in India as well. The company has released a promotional video as well. The Indian automotive industry is exploring its horizons for which all new segments have been created in the Indian two-wheeler market. The mid-sized bikes segment a segment, which will fill up the space in between commuters and mighty sports bikes. The manufacturers have also started to announce their respective bikes in the segment. Kawasaki has already announced Ninja 300R and now KTM has unveiled the Duke 390 at EICMA as we reported some time back. With this bike Bajaj also confirmed Pulsar 375, which will be Bajaj’s counterpart of Duke 390.
At EICMA KTM stand attracted maximum number of visitors, the reason was clear KTM Duke 1290 concept, KTM Duke 690 and KTM Duke 390, all three orange monsters were creating sensations throughout the event. As far as the looks are concerned, the Duke 390 resembles to Duke 200 and Duke 125. The entire design of the bike has been kept similar to that of Duke 200, while the chassis is inspired by KTM Duke 125. By using the chassis design of the Duke 125, KTM engineers have fixed the way bigger 375cc engine of Duke 390 in the same frame of Duke 200. The graphics of the bike are also almost similar to the Duke 200. There are some changes have also been incorporated, biggest of them is 373.2cc single cylinder-liquid cooled engine, which belts out a peak power of 43bhp at 9,250 rpm with the peak torque of 35Nm coming in at 7,250 rpm. The bike weighs 139kg only, which returns a very good power to weight ratio and thus the bike can attain a maximum speed about 160kmph easily. The fuel tank of the bike is also stretched and it fills 0.5 litre more fuel than the Duke 200’s.
The engine of the bike is a four stroke one, but it gives the fun and thrum of the 2-stroke engine, so those who are missing the legendry RD350 will surely love this bike. The European version of the bike will come with ABS as per the new guidelines for bike in the UK. But we are not that sure for the ABS version in India, Bajaj will try to launch it with an affordable price tag. We are expecting it under Rs. 2 lakh and if it happens the bike will perform well for sure. KTM will launch this bike in the UK by the next month and it might come to India by mid-2013.
