The company president has revealed that it is investigating the 150cc segment and will make an announcement soon
Looks like Honda has something interesting brewing in its backyard. The company has confirmed that it is investigating the 150cc segment and will make an announcement soon. At the moment, the Honda Unicorn and the X-Blade are the only two motorcycles Honda has in the 150cc category.
Speaking to a publication, Atsushi Ogata, President, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI), revealed the company’s need to focus more on the 150cc category, and that it is investigating the segment. He also added that we will hear from the manufacturer sooner or later. While Honda already has the Unicorn and the X-Blade, Ogata reveals they are popular only in specific areas of the country, and not India as a whole.

Honda already has the 150+cc commuter spectrum sorted, with the Unicorn raking in steady sales. However, in the sporty 150cc segment, the Honda X-Blade hasn’t been doing well. Moreover, the Hornet sub-brand has already graduated to the 200cc space. Hence, a sporty, capable 150cc motorcycle is the need of the hour for Honda in India, and here’s where the Honda CBR150R makes perfect sense.
The company has already patented the bike here, and we’ve listed the reasons why it could be launched here. With the Honda CBR150R, the Japanese bikemaker will be able to take on the Yamaha R15 V4. The latter has so far been enjoying an undisputed reign in the sporty 150+cc faired bike segment.
The comeback of the CBR150R in a new, modern avatar will also help the company win over enthusiasts, who currently do not have any choice from Honda’s stable when it comes to an affordable faired bike. Expect Honda to launch the motorcycle later this year, probably at around Rs 1.70 lakh (ex-showroom). Let us know what you think in the comments below.
