Honda has just commenced bookings for its middleweight sport bike, the new CBR650R for a token amount of Rs 15,000. The Japanese brand had unveiled the motorcycle at last year’s EICMA show in Milan, Italy and will finally be bringing it to India via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route. Honda has also confirmed that it will price it under Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom). And if our guess is right, expect the price to be somewhere between Rs 7.85 to 7.95 lakh. Since it’s a premium offering, Honda will be selling the motorcycle only through its ‘Wing World’ dealerships in 22 cities across the country. Here’s the list of all such dealerships:
According to our sources, deliveries for the motorcycle will begin from April 2019 onwards. The motorcycle will be available in two colours: Grand Prix Red & Gunpowder Black Metallic. In our market, the CBR650R doesn’t really have any direct rival, but the Kawasaki Ninja 650 comes close. Also, with its sporty demeanour, the Ducati SuperSport is a good alternative too, albeit at a much higher price (Rs 12.08 lakh, ex-showroom).
Noteworthy aspects of the bike include CBR1000RR Fireblade-like styling, updated instrument cluster, a re-tuned engine with better top-end power (95.1PS & 64Nm on the European spec-bike), slip-assist clutch and switchable traction control. Also, the motorcycle is built on a lighter diamond type frame suspended on new 41mm Showa Separate Fork Function (SFF) USD forks up front and a preload adjustable monoshock at the back. Brakes include 4-piston radial calipers up front holding twin 310mm discs and a 240mm rear disc, with dual-channel ABS as standard.
Since the Honda CBR650R is a CKD product, it will be available in limited numbers, in batches, just like the Honda CB300R.
