Royal Enfield (RE) launched their much talked about adventure tourer, the “Himalayan” at a suburban hotel in Mumbai yesterday. The bike costs Rs. 1.55 lac (ex-showroom, Maharashtra).

It will be up for sale at all RE showrooms except for the ones in Delhi-NCR due to the National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) ban on motorcycles that do not comply with Bharat Stage IV emission norms. However, the bike will be displayed and available for test rides and bookings in the region.

Mr Siddhartha Lal - MD & CEO Eicher Motors Ltd. said, "The Royal Enfield Himalayan has been registered across all states in India and will be available across the country in a phased manner. In Delhi as of now the Himalayan is not being registered as the NGT decision came in last minute. It is available in NCR for test rides and bookings. RE is in talks with the authorities to resolve this situation along with several other manufacturers who are facing the same issue Besides RE there are also other two wheeler manufacturers facing the same issue for some of their models."

With the Himalayan there is a lot riding on RE and we are sure the company will move fast towards meeting the emission standards. Those in Delhi-NCR who have booked their Himalayans will have an anxious wait for at least a month. The rest of the country could spot a registered Himalayan on the road soon.
