Triumph Is Ready To Break The World Land Speed Record

The existing world land speed record is 605.697kmph and Triumph aims to exceed it at Bonneville with its 1,000PS Infor Rocket Streamliner.

The iconic British motorcycle maker Triumph is all set to break the existing world land speed record for two-wheelers at the upcoming Bonneville Speed week in August 2016. The current record is held by Rocky Robinson since 2010, who rode the Top Oil-Ack Attack streamliner to a top speed of 605.697kmph (376.363mph). To exceed this record, the company has built the 1,000PS Triumph Infor Rocket Streamliner. And popular Isle of Man TT racer Guy Martin has been appointed to ride this purpose-built machine on the legendary salt flats of Bonneville, USA.

Along with a carbon Kevlar monocoque construction, the Triumph Infor Rocket features two turbocharged Triumph Rocket III engines which is the largest capacity production motorcycle engine. Combined, they produce 1,000PS at 9,000 rpm to propel this 25.5 feet long, 2 feet wide and 3 feet tall motorcycle. Powered by methanol, the bike is competing in the Division C (streamlined motorcycle) category. 

Guy Martin is one of the most popular TT racers and already holds multiple speed records. Commenting on his next attempt, he said, “I can’t wait to take the Triumph Infor Rocket Streamliner onto the salt at Bonneville for the first time this summer. The Triumph engineers have built an amazing machine, giving us the very best chance to beat the two-wheeled land speed record.”

Triumph has a history of breaking the land speed records, holding the title of ‘World's Fastest Motorcycle’ between 1955 and 1970. The record-breaking Triumph Streamliners includes Devil's Arrow, Texas Cee-gar, Dudek Streamliner and Gyronaut X1, the former achieving a top speed of 395.28kmph (245.667mph).
