Triumph Motorcycles fined with Rs 19.2 crore

National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) has fined British motorcycle manufacturer ‘Triumph’ when it observed that the four bolts holding cable guides to the side of the headstock could get loosened without any notice and could result in an accident. The affected bikes were called off from the streets of United States in September last year, while in the UK market the recall happened in early June 2013. The units which were affected were of Triumph Street Triple R.

Triumph delayed to notice the concern almost 13 months late in the US market. Following this, the manufacturer was charged with $2.9 million (Rs 19.2 crore) for violating safety by NHTSA. The sum total is divided into two parts as $1.4 million has to be paid as cash to the authority and $500,000 to be spent in order to meet safety practices. If any additional safety measures are violated, Triumph has to pay an addition of $1 million.
