Triumph Planning To Shift Karnataka Project To Manesar

Triumph Motorcycles India is planning to build its new facility in Manesar, Haryana, following Karnataka government's uncooperative approach 

Iconic British motorcycle manufacturer Triumph Motorcycles has decided to pull back its investment in Karnataka for its new manufacturing facility. Now the company is thinking to go ahead with the same plans in Manesar district of the state of Haryana. While it is a big blow to Karnataka's future as a frontline address for industrial growth, it could be another milestone in the development of Haryana as one of the fastest growing industrial states.

According to the reports, Triumph dropped the plan to set up its manufacturing plant in Karnataka because of the uncooperative behaviour of the state government. With an investment of Rs 850 crore in two phases the company was proposing a 30-acre facility in Narasapura industrial area of Kolar district, which is around 50km from the IT hub of Bengaluru. The initial capacity of the plant was expected to be 2.5 lakh units per annum, which could create employment for thousands of people in the state. 

The project was cleared way back in 2012, however, it failed to move ahead due to the land-related controversies, even after paying an undisclosed advance to the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) for land acquisition. The company is now asking a refund of the advances made on the Narasapura plant but it is not making any official comment saying, "the matter is sensitive in nature."

Triumph is one of the fastest growing premium two-wheeler brands in India, and is eyeing the top spot in the respective segment. Some reports suggest that four other big companies are thinking of pulling back their investments from Karnataka because of similar problems as faced by the British manufacturer.
