The hypercruiser is powered by an enormous 2.5-litre triple-cylinder engine
We already received the ludicrous Triumph Rocket 3 R late last year, and now Triumph has launched its slightly softer, more easygoing sibling, the Rocket 3 GT. This hypercruiser is priced at Rs 18.40 lakh lakh, making it just Rs 40,000 more expensive than the sportier R variant, which is a very small premium, considering the scale of things. Both versions are powered by the same monstrous 2,458cc longitudinally-mounted inline triple motor, but to help make it a little more accommodating and comfortable, Triumph has given the GT a more swept back handlebar and forward-set adjustable footpegs, resulting in a comfier riding posture.
The GT also gets a windscreen and comfier seats, and the pillion gets an adjustable backrest to ensure they don’t fall off when you unleash the 167PS and 221Nm that the engine offers. Of course, all this firepower would be impossible to control without electronic intervention, so Triumph has given the bike aids such as cornering ABS, traction control, four riding modes and cruise control.
An all-new aluminium frame means that the bike tips the scales at 291kg (dry). While this does sound like a lot, it’s still over 40kg lighter than its predecessor. Importantly, the bike is equipped with top-spec Brembo Stylema brake calipers, so despite the heft, it should be able to stop pretty quickly. In isolation, Rs 18.40 does seem like a lot of money for a motorcycle, but a deeper inspection reveals that the Rocket 3 GT is actually fairly decent value for money. For a similar price, Harley-Davidson will only sell you an 1,868cc Fat Boy, which isn’t nearly as sophisticated, powerful or feature-rich.
