The production version TVS Akula 310 has been spotted testing for the second time, and captured in a video for the first time.
The much-anticipated production version of the TVS Akula 310 concept has again been spotted testing on Indian roads. This time, a Pulsar RS200 rider captured the test mule in his action camera and released the video on YouTube. This is not the first time the bike has been spied, but it was captured only in images earlier.
The TVS Akula 310 was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo as a fully loaded racing concept. The concept was based on the new BMW G 310 R, which has been developed by BMW Motorrad and will be produced by TVS in India. The new spy video reveals the tail section and the tail lamp of the highly camouflaged test mule of the bike. The production model looks much similar to the concept model, however, a closer look tells the real story. The split tail section has been replaced with a sharp pointed design and a sleek LED bar takes the place of interesting twin LED tail lamps.
There are some other heavy changes on the bike, which includes the seat and the front fairing as well. The road-going model of the Akula 310 will get a split seat for two, rear view mirrors, and the fairing will be tweaked to incorporate headlights which were missing on the concept version. Earlier, we were expecting that the company will replace the low-set racing type clip-ons with little a little raised set like the Yamaha R3 and Kawasaki Ninja 300. But looking at the riding posture of the rider, it seems that the bike could be launched with the same aggressive seating position like the KTM RC twins. The up-swept exhaust muffler on the test mule was looking almost similar to that on the concept model.
The TVS Akula 310 will share the same 313cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC engine which also powers the BMW G 310 R. The motor will come mated to a six-speed gearbox, making 34PS of power and delivering a peak torque of 28Nm. The bike will also share the wheels and tyres with its Bavarian sibling but the brakes will be TVS' signature petal type discs. The concept model was also carrying adjustable type USD forks, which are expected to be replaced with non-adjustable type units or normal telescopic units. The steering damper will be eliminated as well.
It has been already confirmed by K N Radhakrishnan, President of TVS Motor Company, that the 310cc motorcycle will be launched before the end of this fiscal. We expect that the company will price the Akula 310 around that of the KTM RC 200, which means near Rs 2 lakh. However, it will rival more expensive offerings like the KTM RC 390, Yamaha R3 and Kawasaki Ninja 300.
