Many brand new bike models like Bajaj Discover 94.3cc DTS-Si, TVS Jive, Honda CB Twister and Yamaha YBR 110 have rolled in recently in the Indian commuter motorcycle segment. Another name that adds to this series is the Max4R by TVS. The new rugged and versatile Max4R is priced at Rs. 37,590 ex-showroom. The well-entrenched Max primarily targets farmers, milkmen and the masses of Indian riders who are the regular commuters of rough roads and use their bikes as load-luggers. The trick seat, sturdy rear suspension and tough build of Max are sure to make it the first choice of the rural masses.
The new Max by TVS has got a good engine refinement. The bike has got an admirable low-end grunt. The bike can be smoothly driven in top gear from speeds as low as 25kph. The decent acceleration and easy-to-handle clutch are another qualities of Max. The plain and simply styled styled Max incorporates a big speedometer calibrated upto 140kph. The neutral beacon and turn indicators are also there. But surprisingly the fuel gauge is missing in this bike. The switchgear includes a pass-light flasher and operates with a hard feel. The palm grips of TVS Max are quite comfy. The levers are also positioned in a nice way. The bike also provides a good and clear rear vision from its handlebar-mounted round mirrors.
The riding saddle of this latest TVS bike, Max, is well-padded and wide which will provide the right and friendly posture to the rider. The bike gives a decent quality of ride even on the uneven roads. But as the speed increases, you may experience a little jerky feeling. The new Max4R also incorporates 130mm drums both front and rear. This provides the bike with an adequate stopping power. But the tyres of the bike may lose traction very easily when the emergency stops are attempted.
One noticeable point of TVS Max is its detachable rear seat. The lockable pillion seat of Max is removable and so you get a space for flat, luggage compartment. The grab handle of Max is bolted to the frame. It is not welded. This in turn provides an easy removal and further expansion of the loading bay. The metal guards have also been provided on either side of the seat. These metal guards act as buffers between the rear tyre and shopping bags. The main-stand of the bike requires minimal effort to haul and this is indeed a very friendly feature.
