Can the BS6 NTorq 125 hold a candle to the BS6 Access 125 in the real world?
We’ve managed to test two of the best selling 125cc scooters in the Indian market - the sporty TVS NTorq 125 and the family-oriented Suzuki Access 125. While the NTorq seems its good old perky self on paper it has a whole new story to tell in real-world tests. Can it hold a candle to the BS6 Access 125?
Acceleration:
Right off the bat, the Access 125 has a clear advantage over the NTorq. Problem is, despite having a slight performance advantage over the Access, the NTorq is weighed down by its extra heft (15kg more). As a result, the Access manages to gain almost a second on the NTorq during the 0-40kmph run and extends this lead to around 2 seconds during the 0-60kmph dash.
Roll-ons:
Despite having a decently strong mid-range, the NTorq simply doesn’t feel as peppy as the BS4 scooter. The end result is, it loses out to the Access 125 by 0.76 seconds in roll-on accelerations.
Braking:
Possibly the only area where the NTorq manages to trump its arch rival. Running a 220mm disc up front and a 130mm rear drum at the rear, the NTorq is able to drop the anchor 5.77 metres before the Access. The brakes offer a decent amount of bite with enough progression from the levers to give you enough confidence to slam on the brakes without locking up the NTorq’s front.
Fuel-efficiency:
But losing out on performance may have its perks. You see, the NTorq is now within spitting distance of the Access in terms of fuel efficiency. You could almost call it even. The precise fueling from the NTorq’s fuel-injection system has helped it eke out more from its 125cc motor.
