And we are not talking about electrics
Unlike our friends who roam around on four-wheels, internal combustion engines on two-wheelers are usually powered by petrol. But there are exceptions. Which ones?
1. TVS Apache RTR 200 Fi E100
TVS had first showcased its ethanol-powered Apache 200 at the Auto Expo 2018. Although we were unsure about the availability of ethanol, and we still are, TVS launched the production-ready Apache RTR 200 Fi E100 earlier this year. If the fuel ever does grow in popularity in the near future, TVS will be ready to reap the rewards. Currently, the bike is only sold in Uttar Pradesh and is ready for exports to markets where the fuel is available in abundance.
2. Royal Enfield Taurus
The only mass produced diesel powered motorcycle of the world was conceived by Royal Enfield. Using the Bullet mechanicals as base, the Taurus was powered by a sub-350cc diesel engine. This motorcycle was built to combat the rise in petrol prices. Unfortunately, it could not meet emission norms.
3. CNG Kits For Honda Activa
Another innovative idea born due to rising fuel prices, Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) had launched CNG conversion kits for everyday scooters like the Activa. These kits cost Rs 16,500 and have been certified by the ARAI. The best part of installing this kit is that you do not have to give up on gasoline. If your gas tanks are running dry, a simple switch changes your fuel from CNG to gasoline so that you can ride to your closest CNG pump for refueling.
