[UPDATE: Ather has launched the updated 450X in India. Full details in our launch story]
Ather Energy recently updated its lineup with the Gen 3 model. And though the update brought the Ather 450X closer in terms of range and performance to the Ola S1 Pro, we were left mulling over the lack of visual differentiators between the Gen 2 and 3 e-scoots. But now it appears Ather seems to have heard our pleas, as the next crop of Ather scoots – possibly called the Gen 3.1 – will feature quite a few new bits. What exactly? Read on…
Stylish new colours
The updated Ather will get four new colours:
-
Ravishing Red: Bright red body with white accents on black alloys, and white underseat frame.
-
Salt Green: Light green body with red accents on black alloys, and orange underseat frame.
-
Lunar Grey: Light grey body with red alloys and underseat frame.
-
Cosmic Black: All black with green accents on alloys and green underseat frame.
Improved Rider Comfort
The seat on the Gen 3.1 scooter has been extensively redone, with the front now a bit more tapered. Along with the rider’s seat now a bit more scooped out. This will make it a bit more accessible for shorter riders, though the current model’s seat height is an already approachable 780mm.
Moreover, while the rider’s seat is now both longer and wider, the pillion seat is marginally longer as well.
Better performance?
Now this part isn’t something we can discern from the leaked images. However, recently revealed RTO documents revealed the upcoming Ather 450X will get a 0.2kW bump in power, while that on the 450 Plus will be 0.4kW, courtesy the new motors from Japanese brand Nidec. Moreover, the leaked document reveals that the new scooters may be 5mm wider, with a 1mm longer wheelbase.
The Final Word
Ather will showcase the Gen 3.1 lineup (or whatever the final iteration will be called) on January 7, which is when we’ll be able to check whether it’ll be a comprehensive update, or just revised aesthetics. Either way, stay tuned to Bikedekho.
