The sporty scooter gets a massive overhaul in terms of design, performance as well as features
Honda’s Indonesian arm, PT Astra Honda Motor, has launched the 2022 Vario 160 in the country. This seventh-generation scooter witnesses a major rework inside and out, and is the most powerful scooter in the Vario brand to go on sale in Indonesia. The company has priced the scooter at IDR 25,800,000 (around Rs 1.37 lakh) for the CBS variant and IDR 28,500,000 (around Rs 1.48 lakh) for the ABS variant.
The new scooter gets a beefier and a more muscular body than its predecessor, the Vario 150. The bulbous yet sharp-looking bodywork reminds us of the Yamaha Aerox 155. That said, the design of the split LED headlights and DRLs looks a little too overdone in our opinion.
The Vario 160 gets a new powertrain, same as the PCX 160 available in Indonesia: A 160cc, 4-valve, liquid-cooled engine producing 15PS and 13.8Nm, which is almost the same as the Yamaha Aerox 155).

The updated scooter is built on Honda’s new underbone frame, called eSAF (enhanced Smart Architecture Frame) platform which the company claims to improve the scooter’s agility and handling. It uses a telescopic fork and a rear monoshock. The new scooter gets wider tyres – a 100/80-14 up front and a 120/70-14 at the rear – as compared to its predecessor’s 90/80-14 front and 100/80-14 rear setup. The Vario 160 also gets rear disc brakes instead of the drum unit on the Vario 150.
In terms of features, the scooter comes equipped with a fully digital instrument cluster, LED headlight and taillight, Honda Smart Key function (alarm and answer back function), a USB type A charger, 18 litres of boot space, and dual-channel ABS (on the top-spec variant).
The CBS variant gets three paint schemes (Active Black, Grande Matte Black, and Grande Matte Red), whereas the ABS variant can be had in Active Black, Grande Matte Black, and Grande White colour options with the alloy wheels finished in a ‘burnt titanium’ shade.
The 2022 Honda Vario 160 will not be heading to our shores anytime soon, but you can check out the similar offerings available in India like the Aprilia SXR 160 and of course, the Yamaha Aerox 155.
