Confused by the pricing plans for Ather’s new scooter? We’re here to help
Buying a petrol-powered scooter is an easy and simple affair. There’s an ex-showroom price, which, after the addition of registration and insurance charges, becomes the on-road price. With electric vehicles though, things can be a little more complex, as is being proved with the new Ather 450X. The scooter has been launched recently with some rather confusing buying options. Fret not though, for we’re here to break down the possibly confusing buying options for you.
Here are the basics: there are two ‘experience packs’ - namely Pro & Plus, and two buying options - a subscription plan or an upfront purchase. The two experience plans affect the performance, charging and range characteristics of the scooter, as well as some smart features. The full breakup can be seen in the table below:
If you opt for the subscription method, the scooter can be yours for a price of Rs 99,000 (ex-showroom Bengaluru) which becomes Rs 1.05 lakh (on-road). After this, you have to pick either one of the experience plans, and pay the subscription amount on a monthly basis.
The subscription cost buys you an unlimited km warranty on the battery, irrespective of its condition. Another advantage with these packs is that the customer can avail any future updates/upgrades from Ather, For example, if Ather comes up with an even denser battery pack in the future, one can get the new battery installed for free under this plan (provided it is of the same shape and dimensions as the current battery).
If a recurring monthly subscription cost isn’t to your liking, you also have the option of purchasing the scooter up-front, in either one of its configurations. The 450X in Pro trim will cost you Rs 1.49 lakh, while the Plus spec scooter will retail at Rs 1.59 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom Bengaluru). The compromise here is that you aren’t entitled to future updates, and battery warranty is reduced to just three years. Even those purchasing the scooter up-front will have to compulsorily opt for the Ather Connect subscription, which buys you things like Over The Air Updates, data connectivity, public charging infrastructure, etc.
