How does the Ather 450X fare against the Japanese U-Go?
Honda’s Chinese arm, Wuyang Honda recently launched the U-Go e-scooter in China. It won’t be hitting the Indian shores as the Japanese manufacturer has other plans for us. However, we currently have the Ather 450X setting the benchmark in the e-scooter division. So, we’ve compared it with the Honda U-Go, visually, and here are the results.
Design-wise, the Ather 450X looks very sleek and sporty, garnering more attention from the youth. It gets LED illumination all around and a clean overall design. The Honda U-Go also seems to follow a minimalistic design approach and it too gets LED treatment all around.

The Ather 450X houses a 6kW, 26Nm PMS (Permanent Magnet Synchronous) motor linked to a new 21,700 cells in the lithium-ion battery pack. It offers a maximum range of 85km and the top speed is limited to 80kmph. Meanwhile, the Honda U-Go is powered by a 1.44kWh lithium-ion battery offering a 65km of range. It can further be doubled to 130km with the use of a second battery unit.
The Ather 450X gets a 22-litre underseat storage whereas the Honda U-Go offers 26-litres. But with the addition of a second battery pack for the extended range, the U-Go’s storage capacity takes a hit.
Featurewise, the Ather 450X is loaded to the gills. You get a 7-inch TFT display with access to in-built Google Maps, storage, Bluetooth connectivity for calls and music control. Moreover, it gets integrated 4G LTE SIM connectivity as well. On the other hand, the Honda U-Go gets a sombre LCD with the tell-tale details and a USB charging port. It doesn’t offer any connectivity features either.
The Ather 450X is sprung by a conventional telescopic fork and a rear monoshock whereas the Honda U-Go uses a telescopic front fork but gets a dual rear spring setup.
Braking hardware on the Ather 450X comprises a front and rear disc brake with CBS but the Honda U-Go gets a front disc and a rear drum brake setup.
Thanks to the Fame 2 subsidy, the Ather 450X costs Rs 1.32 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Honda U-Go is priced at CNY 7,499, which is roughly around Rs 86,000. While the latter is much more affordable, the lack of features can be a bother.
