The 450 Apex will be a limited edition electric scooter from Ather and will bring more performance and some visual changes
The brand new limited edition electric scooter from Ather is just around the corner. Called the Ather 450 Apex, it’ll be the brand’s quickest e-scooter till date and will also get some visual changes. After some teasers on Instagram, Ather has opened bookings for the 450 Apex for a fully refundable amount of Rs 2,500 with deliveries expected to start from March 2024.
What’s new?
The Ather 450 Apex has been built to celebrate the company’s 10th anniversary, and has the same overall design as the Ather 450X. We expect the mechanicals to be about the same as well. It should have the same 3.7kWh battery pack, but the motor might make a little more maximum power compared to the 450X’s peak output of 6.4kW.
This is based on the fact that the e-scooter’s booking page lists one more riding mode called Warp+. We expect this mode will provide even quicker acceleration than the 450X’s claimed 0-40kmph time of 3.0 seconds. But given the additional demand this extra power will put on the battery, we expect that this extra performance will be available for short bursts, helping riders make quick overtakes in the city.
Apart from more power, the 450 Apex will get transparent body panels to display the scooter’s beautiful extruded aluminium subframe for the world to see. Ather had done something similar with the Ather 450X Series One limited edition e-scooter which got translucent black panels. But Ather’s CEO, Tarun Mehta, ensures us through his tweets that this time, the panels will be fully transparent.
Tarun’s latest tweets also point to the fact that the 450 Apex will get much stronger regenerative braking - basically, once you roll off the throttle, the scooter will automatically slow down (much like a petrol-powered scooter), while recharging the battery a little bit in the process. The Apex will likely have a small reverse throttle movement which will deliver strong regenerative braking. And Ather claims that this will eliminate the need for using the brakes in most situations.
What’s the price?
Ather hasn’t revealed anything about the Apex’s price apart from the booking amount of Rs 2,500 (which is fully refundable if you choose not to buy it after booking). But we expect the price to be Rs 1.6 lakh (ex-showroom Bengaluru including FAME 2 subsidy), which is Rs 10,000 more than the 450X’s 3.7kWh variant.
We’ll be riding the Ather 450 Apex later this month, so stay tuned for our first ride review. And if you do go ahead and book one of these, Ather says that deliveries will start from March 2024.
