(UPDATE: Ather has launched the updated 450X and 450 Plus in India. Full details in our launch story)
Ather is gearing up to launch the updated iteration of its popular electric scooter, the 450X. The Bengaluru-based manufacturer has revealed on its social media channels that the Ather 450X Gen 3 will be launched tomorrow, 19th July.
Looking at the teasers Ather has put out, the white colour option might make a comeback with the 450X Gen3. Additionally, based on a leaked type-approval document, this updated scooter might also get a larger battery pack, thus promising more range. The current Ather 450X is rated at 2.9kWh, whereas according to the leaked document, the capacity of the updated battery pack will be 3.66kWh, a notable jump.
Thanks to this larger battery pack, the Ather 450X Gen3 is said to come with a claimed range of 146km, which is much higher than its current range of 116km. Similarly, the upgraded Ather 450 Plus would offer a claimed range of 108km, while the current model has a claimed range of 100km. These range figures for both the scooters are claimed to be in Eco riding mode.
The leaked document also reveals that the motor for the 450 Plus and 450X has been tweaked for a slightly higher peak output. The existing motor for both variants is rated for a nominal output of 3.3kW, while peak output is 5.4kW for the 450 Plus and 6kW for the 450X. The new motor for both variants is rated at a nominal output of 3.1kW, while having a peak output of 5.8 kW for the 450 Plus and 6.4kW for the 450X.
The dimensions of the 450X Gen3 are also slightly increased, most likely due to the larger battery pack. The wheelbase, height and length of the scooter have increased by 9mm, 11mm and 25mm respectively.
The Ather 450X is currently priced at Rs 1,38,006 (ex-showroom Delhi, inclusive of FAME II and state subsidy), and considering that the battery is the most expensive component in an EV, prices for the 450X Gen3 might witness a hike in the range of Rs 5,000 - Rs 6,000.
