Ducati Unveils 899 Panigale at Frankfurt Motor Show

A few days ago, we have shown you the spy picture of Ducati 899 Panigale, which gave us an idea that Ducati was working on a smaller version of Panigale 1199. Now the motorcycle has been finally unveiled at the 2014 Frankfurt Motor Show. The bike looks same as in the spy pictures, and will come in two colour options- Red with Black wheels and White with Red wheels. This motorbike will take the place of Ducati's 848 range of super sport bikes.

Many design features of 899 Panigale are similar to its elder sibling Panigale 1199, which include shape of the body panels except size, pattern of LED head-lamps, tail-lamps, seating, wind-screen, rear-view mirrors with LED blinkers etc. The major specifications that make it distinct are dimensions, engine, instrument console, dual side banana swing arm, tyre size and 10mm smaller dual disks on the front wheel. 899 Panigale also has been made on a light and rigid monocoque aluminium chassis.

The new smaller version has got an all new 898cc, Superquadro engine. Superquadro stands for 90 degree V-Twin, 4-valve per cylinder, Desmodromic, liquid cooled engine. This advanced engine with a compression ratio of 12.5:1 churns out a power of 148bhp and the peak torque goes to 99Nm.

The bike also shares many advanced technologies from Panigale 1199 like 9ME Antilock Braking System (ABS), 8 level Ducati Traction Control (DTC) system, riding mode control with three different pre-set modes- race, sport and wet, Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) technology in gearbox, DDA (Ducati Data Analyzer) and Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa tyres (differ in size). All these features make it a perfect racing package under 1000cc category.
