Both are packed with interesting features. But which one is better on paper?
Hero MotoCorp launched the Glamour 125 BS6 at the Hero World 2020 in February. It goes up directly against the Honda SP 125, the Japanese brand’s first BS6-compliant motorcycle in the country. It is also the spiritual successor to the now-discontinued Honda CB Shine SP. Let’s see which one’s superior in terms of specifications:
Engine
Both the bikes are very closely matched in terms of engine output. However, the SP 125 weighs 5kg less than the Glamour 125 BS6, which should translate into slightly easier low-speed maneuverability theoretically. However, expect the real-world performance to remain more or less the same. Hero has equipped the motorcycle with AutoSail, a feature which helps in maintaining the momentum of the bike at crawling speeds in traffic effortlessly. It also gets i3S (idle Stop Start System) which shuts off the engine after idling for a while in traffic. The engine turns back on by pulling the clutch lever. On the other hand, the Honda SP 125 features a silent starter which ensures quick and silent startup of the engine. The SP 125 also gets a number of friction-reduction technologies for better efficiency and refinement. In fact, Honda claims the bike can offer 16 per cent more mileage than the BS4-compliant CB Shine SP.
Underpinnings
Both the Hero Glamour 125 BS6 and the Honda SP 125 get the same frame, suspension and braking setup. However, the Glamour 125 BS6 gets traditional tyres with a fatter rear unit. This should help in offering better cornering confidence. On the other hand, the rear tyre of the Honda SP 125 is a low rolling resistance unit, which means it is designed to offer better mileage at the expense of outright grip.
Dimensions & Features
The Hero Glamour 125 BS6’s 20mm extra ground clearance will help the motorcycle go over bad roads unscathed. Despite the higher ground clearance, its seat height is more or less similar to the Honda SP 125’s. But being marginally lighter, the Honda SP 125 should be slightly easier to maneuver at tight parking spaces.
In terms of features, the Hero Glamour makes do with a halogen headlamp and a semi-digital instrument cluster with mileage indicator. On the other hand, the Honda SP 125 gets a full-LED headlamp and tail lamp, along with a fully digital instrument cluster that not only shows the real-time, average mileage and range but also gets a gear position indicator.
Price & Verdict
The Hero Glamour 125 BS6 undercuts the Honda SP 125 by around Rs 4,500 to Rs 5,200, depending on the variant. But consequently, you also get slightly less features. Overall, if you’re looking for a simple, no-nonsense 125cc commuter motorcycle, the Hero Glamour 125 BS6 is the one to go for. But if you’re looking for a feature-laden, stylish 125cc bike, the Honda SP 125 will be a good fit.
