Honda becomes No. 1 in 8 States and 1 Union Territory across India

Adding 3 new States to its No. 1 tally, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt Ltd (HMSI) is now No. 1 selling two-wheeler brand in 8 States and 1 Union Territory across India. The results are as per latest sales figures provided by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) for the first quarter of FY’2015-16. The company was already leading the market in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, Goa and Chandigarh (Union Territory) and now it is also No. 1 two-wheeler seller in Gujarat, Punjab and Delhi.

 

Honda has strengthened its undisputed leadership in automatic scooter segment and is leading the scooterization of Indian Two-Wheeler industry across all 29 States and UTs. In fact, Honda’s market share in the automatic scooter is as high as over 80 percent in Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh and over 70 percent in 3 States (Andhra Pradesh, Haryana and Uttarakhand).

Commenting on Honda’s performance, Mr. Keita Muramatsu, President & CEO, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, said, “In the first quarter of FY’2015-16, Honda grew 5 times faster than the industry. Honda 2Wheeler is now the ‘Most preferred 2-wheeler brand’ in an impressive 8 States and 1 Union Territory. Our strategy to launch many new models in both scooter and motorcycle segments, network expansion in smaller towns, increased flexibility in production mix to meet demand and top of mind brand recall brand has been well accepted in the market.”

On achieving the fete, Mr. Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice President, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, said, “Honda’s success story is a result of the continued trust reposed by customers on the Honda brand. In fact, the overwhelming demand for the iconic Activa has led the brand cross one million sales in just five months of FY15-16. Our newly launched motorcycles Livo and CBR 650F are receiving a tremendous response. Now with the onset of festive season, we are confident of driving the next growth-curve for Honda in India.”
