Here's us taking a closer look at how the Chinese maxi-scooter stacks up to its German rival
In India, the BMW C400 GT was launched in the last quarter of 2021. While the maxi-scooter doesn't have any competition in the country, it has a few rivals overseas, one of them being the new Kymco Xciting S400.
In this photo comparison, we look at how the new Chinese maxi-scooter compares with the Beemer:
Both the fascias look sharp and bulky, typical of maxi-scooters. The Kymco Xciting S400 and the BMW C400 GT feature a tall windscreen and an LED headlight. However, the former also gets an LED DRL, which the Beemer misses out on.
Moving to the side, you'll notice both maxi-scooters get sharp and sturdy body panels, a single-piece step-up seat with contouring, sharp rear grab handles, and upswept exhausts.
At the rear, both the scooters look sleek, really, and feature LED taillights.
On the features front, Kymco Xciting S400 comes equipped with two glove boxes with a single 12V USB charging port, a five-step adjustable windscreen, traction control system, and a semi-digital instrument cluster that can be paired with your smartphone via the Kymco Noodoe application. This dash also displays navigation.
The BMW C400 GT, on the other hand, gets a keyless start, a USB charging port, ride by wire, ABS, automatic stability control system, and a TFT display with smartphone connectivity and navigation assist. BMW also offers a few accessories such as heated grips and seat, a colour TFT dash, DRL, and an Anti-theft alarm system.
Powering the Kymco Xciting S400 is a 400cc single-cylinder engine that puts out 36.03PS and 39.1 Nm. Meanwhile, the BMW C400 GT draws power from a 350cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that churns out 34PS and 35Nm.
The ride of both the maxi-scooters is taken care of by telescopic forks at the front and dual shock absorbers at the rear. Meanwhile, the braking setup is also identical; both the maxi-scooters use a dual disc up front and a single disc at the rear.
The BMW C400 GT gets a slightly bigger, 12.8-litre fuel tank compared to the 12.5-litre unit on the Kymco Xciting S400. For shorter riders, the C400 GT will be a bit more comfortable as the seat height is 775mm compared to the 810mm on the Xciting S400.
The Kymco Xciting S400 is priced at PHP 3,59,000 (approx Rs 5.19 lakh), and it's available in four colour options: Blue, White, Black, and Grey. Meanwhile, the BMW C400 GT is priced in the Philippines at PHP 5,95,000 (approx 8.61 lakh), and it's offered in three paint schemes: White, Grey Metallic, and Black Metallic.
For reference, the BMW C400 GT is sold in India as a CBU (Completely Built-Up Unit), hence the price is on the higher side, at Rs 9.95 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
