The bike could be launched in the Indian market before the BMW G 310 R, which uses the same platform.

After the BMW G 310 R, TVS Motors has started testing of the Akula 310 production model in India, which hints that its launch is nearing. A completely camouflaged test mule of the bike has been spotted on the Bangalore-Hosur road and it was looking much similar to the concept model showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. There was a temporary Karnataka registration plate on the bike as well.

The upcoming TVS Akula 310 will be the second motorcycle to use the BMW G 310 R's platform, developed by the German automaker. However, some reports suggest that the company is planning to launch the Akula in the Indian market prior to the G 310 R. So, we can expect the faired bike to enter the market by the end of this year or early 2017.

The TVS Akula 310 was first showcased as a racing bike concept, however, its production model will be slightly different. The bike will get a split seat for two and get a split pattern headlamp, which were missing on the race-spec model. The company might also replace the inverted front forks with conventional ones to cut costs. Also, we can expect to see a slightly different steering geometry with a bit raised clip-ons to make it compatible for both racing and touring.

The engine of the bike will be the same single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 310cc unit, which powers the BMW G 310 R. The motor makes 34PS of power and delivers a peak torque of 28Nm, which is quite satisfactory for its segment. The other features of the bike could be similar to the naked bike but ABS could be optional. After its launch, the TVS Akula 310 will compete with the likes of the Yamaha YZF-R3, KTM RC 390 and the Kawasaki Ninja 300.
