Chennai based company TVS Motors seems trying hard to regain its lost position in the Indian market. TVS was doing well with its commuter TVS Victor and scooter Scooty and sports bike Apache, but out of these, the Victor has been phased out, Scooty is also not doing that well, and Apache's sales are no different. The company has faced a 8% dip in sales in fiscal 2012-13. And to make things better the company has made some swift decisions; they are in talks with BMW Motorrad for a collaboration. Additionally, they have announced an all new bike to target middleweight section and to rival the likes of Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS, Honda CBR250R and KTM Duke 200. Also a high-powered scooter model, which will be positioned right above the Wego 110 and the relaunch of its popular commuter TVS Victor. Is on the cards.
Well, on these announcements, our reaction is that the company is a little late, how? Let us explain, the high performance bike is still in initial stages and will hit Indian market only in 2014 or 2015, meanwhile there is major chunk of performance bikes to be launched like KTM Duke 390, Honda CBR500R, Ninja 300R etc. So, there will be a fierce competition for this new comer. On the other hand, the upcoming 125cc scooter is expected to come in later half of 2013 and here again a tough competition will welcome it, including Suzuki Access and Swish, Honda Dio and Mahindra Duro.
The commuter segment might welcome the Victor in 2013, but it all depends that how good the product will be, the same thing also applies on the high performance bike and scooter. The performance/sports bike from TVS might be a faired version of the Apache and it might have a 200 capacity. Company is in final stages to collaborate with BMW Motorrad, and if the same happens the upcoming bike might have a German heart. For now, the Indian bikemaker is relying on its newly launched commuter TVS Phoenix and unisex scooter TVS Wego 110.
