Increments range between Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,500
TVS’ most affordable product, the rugged XL100 moped, has gone up in price for the first time since its BS6 launch. All three variants have been affected, but despite this, it continues to be the most affordable fuel-injected two-wheeler available today (the Bajaj CT100 does not, in fact, use a traditional fuel-injection system). The price hike ranges between Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,500. Here’s a variant-wise breakup:
The XL isn’t alone as most TVS models including the Apache RTR series and the NTorq and Jupiter scooters have received price hikes recently. The lockdown may be lifting but buying new two-wheelers is probably the last thing on people’s minds right now, meaning that the market is still quite slow and manufacturer’s are continuing to struggle.
Add to this the fact that incorporating fuel-injection and an additional catalytic converter is turning out to be more expensive than manufacturers initially indicated to us, and the reason for these hikes becomes quite clear. It’s also possible that supply chain disruptions from China are forcing manufacturers to opt for more expensive alternatives from elsewhere, and this increased expense is being passed on to the buyers.
