Ducati unveils the new Monster 1200 and 1200S at 2013 EICMA
Italian motorcycle brand Ducati has unveiled four new models of its 2014 line-up at 2013 EICMA. In addition to the Monster 1200 and Superleggera, the lineup includes the 899 Panigale and a fourth model to be introduced early next year. While, the 899 Panigale has already begun arriving at dealerships in selected markets, the Monster 1200 and Superleggera have been now inveiled at EICMA.
Monster 1200: The Monster 1200 (MSRP $13,495) is the third generation of the popular model, and includes a 1200 S (MSRP $15,995) version. The Monster has a completely new chassis and is powered by the 1198 Testastretta 11-degree DS engine. Ducati says that this incarnation of the Monster has the best ergonomics and looks to date. The Monster has eight-level traction control, three-level ABS and three Riding Modes that can be selected with the push of a button. The choices don’t stop there: the Monster also has adjustable seat height.
The Monster 1200 S has 145hp and comes in two colors: the traditional red with a red frame and black wheels, as well as white with a bronze frame and black wheels. 1199 Superleggera: Each 1199 Superleggera is individually numbered, and the short run of 500 was already ninety percent sold prior to its official unveiling. A sneak-peek website for the Superleggera was accessible by invitation only and was intended as a reward for Ducati customers, giving them first crack at ordering one of the bikes. Ducati says that the titanium, magnesium and carbon fiber components give the Superleggera the highest power-to-weight ratio of any production motorcycle in history: over 200hp and a dry weight of 341.7 lbs.
