Let's see, via images, how Honda's soon-to-be-launched CB300R BS6 stacks up against the KTM 390 Duke

After discontinuing it in 2020, Honda has now unveiled the CB300R in its BS6 avatar for the Indian market. While we already have a few options in this segment, the KTM 390 Duke has been the all-time favourite for a lot of enthusiasts. So let's see via images how Honda's upcoming CB300R BS6 stacks up against the hooligan from KTM.

Starting with the design, both motorcycles are poles apart as the upcoming Honda CB300R BS6 gets a CB1000R-derived neo-retro look while the KTM's 390 Duke gets a sharp, bold and aggressive design.

While the fascia of the Honda CB300R BS6 accommodates a circular LED headlight with twin DRLs, the KTM 390 Duke features a sharp and mean-looking LED headlight with split DRLs.

Moving to the side, you'll notice that the KTM 390 Duke gets a sharp and aggressive bodywork while the Honda CB300R BS6’s panels look quite sleek, yet rounded and beefy. Having said that, there are a few bits of equipment common between both bikes, such as the split seat, tank extensions/radiator shrouds, underbelly pan and an upswept exhaust.

While there are a few similarities, the difference can chiefly be noticed at the tail section, as the Honda CB300R BS6 gets a stubby unit as compared to the sharp tail section on the KTM 390 Duke. However, both bikes do come equipped with an LED taillight. The indicators are LEDs as well.

On the features front, the upcoming CB300R BS6 will come equipped with a side stand engine cut-off and a blue backlit LCD instrument cluster that displays gear position and side-stand indicator along with the rest of the run-of-the-mill bits. Meanwhile, the 390 Duke features a proper multifunction TFT console with smartphone connectivity.

Talking about the engine and transmission, the Honda CB300R BS6 draws power from the same 286cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine as before, though it now churns out 31.1PS and 27.5Nm. On the other hand, the KTM 390 Duke is powered by a 373.3cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that produces 43.5PS and 37Nm. Moreover, both engines come mated to a six-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch.

Underpinnings on the upcoming CB300R include a 41mm Showa USD fork at the front and a link-type monoshock suspension at the rear. Meanwhile, the 390 Duke comes equipped with a43mm WP USD fork at the front and a WP monoshock at the rear.

For braking, both motorcycles come equipped with disc brakes. While the CB300R mounts a 296mm/220mm disc brake setup, the 390 Duke employs a 320mm disc up front and a 230mm disc at the rear. Moreover, the wheel size is common here, as both bikes run on 17-inch alloys.

All in all, the 390 Duke is perfect for those who want a performance-packed naked. On the other hand, the gorgeous CB300R will appeal to those looking for a lightweight neo-retro naked. That said, if you’re interested in the CB300R, you’ll have to wait until January 22, 2022, which is when Honda will be launching the motorcycle.
