Recently, Japanese manufacturer Honda unleashed a major surprise by launching the NAVi in India at the 2016 Auto Expo. The moto-scooter had received a tremendous response from the spectators at the event and as per reports, over 500 units of the NAVi have been booked online already. Most of the buyers are from metro cities, and the targetted urban youth audience seems to be taking well to this unconventional two-wheeler, suggest reports doing the rounds online.

According to V Sridhar, senior VP and director, corporate office production, HMSI, “Since its launch on February 3 at the Auto Expo, we have received 500 bookings through its mobile app. The automatic 110cc model has an engine equivalent to our popular model Activa. We wanted to provide something additional to the scooter, and this bike was designed. The name of the model is an abbreviation of New Additional Value for India, that is NAVi, which will target the youth.”

This new machine will be produced at the company’s facility in Alwar, Rajasthan from March, with deliveries beginning in April. As per officials at Honda, India has welcomed the commuter segment with open arms and the sales have increased in the past three years. “India is catching up fast with the growing scooterisation in developed economies and ASEAN nations. Demand for scooters is growing fast, we are trying to match the demand. We had 30,000 Honda scooters waiting at the close to 2015. So our scooter-only plant at Gujarat can meet the demand,” Sridhar said.
