Unlike the name, the 2017 Ducati SuperSport is a sport tourer with an 113PS engine, made for commuting and medium-distance rides.
Ducati has finally revealed its long-awaited SuperSport along with the SuperSport S version at INTERMOT. The styling of the bike perfectly complements its name while its purpose is much different. It is not a supersport motorcycle in reality, but a sport tourer which has been designed for commuting and medium distance touring.
Unveiling the 2017 Ducati SuperSport and SuperSport S, Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali said, “Expert riders will appreciate the true sports personality of the SuperSport, its excellent road performance and apparent penchant for journeying and everyday use. Riders approaching the Ducati sports world for the first time will discover versatility, easy handling and, above all, the very essence of sports riding as Ducati sees it.”
The new Ducati SuperSport has been built on a slightly tweaked version of the Ducati Monster's tubular steel trellis frame, while the power mill has been taken from the Ducati Hyperstrada 939. Still, it looks heavily inspired by the Panigale range of supersport motorcycles. The 937cc, liquid-cooled, 11° Testastretta L-twin engine has been tuned to deliver 113PS of power at 9000rpm and a peak torque of 96.7Nm at 6,500rpm.
The bike receives 3 riding modes -- Sport, Touring and Urban -- which adjusts throttle sensitivity, traction control and ABS intervention according to the riding conditions. Moreover, Urban mode also lowers the peak power delivery, giving you better control of the machine in traffic. The electronic pack also comprises of 9MP ABS and Ducati Traction Control (DTC). Both the standard and the S versions are ready to be fitted with anti-theft systems, and get a full LCD instrument panel along with an adjustable windshield.
Besides these standard features, the new Ducati SuperSport S gets adjustable Öhlins suspension and Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) that allows clutchless downshifts and upshifts without lifting the throttle. The S version also gets a rear seat cover as an optional extra. Both versions of the bike will be available in the international market by March 2017, while the company might announce prices of the model soon.
We believe that this is not the only new model from the Italian manufacturer for 2017, and we can expect some more at the upcoming EICMA show in November 2016.
