The upcoming Monster ditches its trademark trellis frame for a cast aluminium one
- It’s most likely the new Monster 821.
- Expected to be digitally showcased at World Ducati Premiere.
- Ducati Multistrada V4 was also spotted testing.
The Ducati Multistrada V4 is set to be the most significant motorcycle to come from the Italian bikemaker and a test mule was recently spotted. Ducati is also working on an all-new Monster and a test mule of the naked motorcycle has also been spotted. It is most likely to be the new Monster 821 as it is the most popular Monster and Ducati will be looking to update it first. The biggest change to the new Monster is in the form of a new frame.
Since launch, the Monster has had the trademark trellis frame which formed a large part of its design. That is set to change as the test mule was spotted with a cast aluminium frame that appears to use the motor as a stressed member. It also gets a cast aluminium swingarm similar to the one on the Multistrada V4. The new motorcycle appears to have a longer subframe which would allow more space for a larger pillion seat. Braking continues to be via a set of front radial Brembo brakes. The 2021 Monster continues to use the same headlamp design which could have updated LED internals. Even the handlebar appears to be higher allowing for a more upright and comfortable seating position.
The new motor will be Euro 5/BS6 compliant and is expected to be more efficient than the current model. Given the small twin exhausts, the motor is likely to be lighter. The current Monster 821’s 821cc liquid-cooled L-twin motor delivers 109PS and 86Nm. The new motor is expected to offer similar performance. While it gets riding modes, power modes, ABS and traction control, Ducati could add IMU-based traction control and cornering ABS to the new Monster.
The new Monster 821 is expected to be digitally unveiled later this year at World Ducati Premiere and an India launch is likely in 2021. It is expected to be priced marginally higher than the current Monster 821 which retails for an ex-showroom price of Rs 10.99 lakh. It will compete with other naked motorcycles like the Triumph Street Triple R, BMW F 900 R, Kawasaki Z900, KTM 790 Duke, and the upcoming Harley Davidson Bronx.
