In terms of design, at first glance, the Dio 125 looks very similar to the 110cc Dio yet a bit beefier. We’d have loved to see something fresher, but that said, Honda’s decision is a good thing in a way because the Dio’s target audience will welcome the familiarity factor that the new 125cc scooter offers.
But upon looking at the scooter with a keen eye, some differences can be spotted. For example, the DRL, headlight cowl and the body panels at the front look more premium and a bit more muscular. The Honda logo is now on the side panels instead of the front. The major change is the sleeker dual-outlet muffler with a chrome cover which might lead to a more aggressive exhaust note. Even the side panels are more aggressive in the 125cc scooter.
The engine details of the Dio 125 are to be revealed soon. That said, it’ll be based on the Honda Grazia’s 123.9cc engine that produces 8.25PS and 10.3Nm. The sporty scooter also gets a telescopic fork with a 12-inch front wheel, petal disc brake at the front (for Smart variant) and a 3-step adjustable rear suspension and a drum brake at the rear.
The Honda Dio 125 gets the Smart key fob from the 110cc Dio, Activa and Activa 125 and its Smart Find, Smart Unlock, Smart Safe and Smart Start features in the Smart variant. You can read more about the smart features here. It gets an LCD instrument console that displays a tachometer, side-stand indicator, speedometer in the centre, average mileage, real-time mileage, tripmeter, clock and battery indicator among others. But the lack of smartphone connectivity is a major miss. The storage space in the scooter is 18 litres.
The new Honda Dio 125 will enter the sporty 125cc segment and will take on the likes of the Yamaha RayZR 125, TVS NTorq 125, Suzuki Avenis, Aprilia SR125, and the upcoming Hero Xoom 125.
