Honda’s first e-scooter for the masses in Europe looks very promising
We’ve known for some time that Honda has been working on a range of new electric offerings. At EICMA 2022 it has unveiled the new EM1 e, its first e-scooter for consumers in Europe. It has also announced plans of launching more than 10 e-bikes globally by 2025.
The EM1 e is a cute little scooter, and sort of looks like an Ather 450X without the aggression. While the exact specifications of the e-scooter are still under wraps, Honda claims each one of the EM1’s removable battery packs offers 40km of range.
Recently news of Honda developing an e-scooter for India had surfaced which (Activa Electric?) too is likely to have swappable batteries. One good reason to believe that it will be battery swap-ready because, Honda’s Benly E was spied on testing a couple of times. More than the e-scooter itself, we believe it’s being used as a mule to test Honda’s swappable battery system. And Let’s not forget, Honda did partner with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to establish battery swap stations at HP’s petrol pumps.

It would be really cool if the EM1 e would make its way to India, no? Official plans for the EM1 e is Europe first release some time after June 2023, but we think an e-scooter of this nature isn’t really destined for India, it will need to compete with extremely competent and mature products like the Ather 450X, Ola S1 Pro, TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak.
