It comes as no surprise, with every third scooter on the road being Activa
Honda’s legendary Activa range has hit the three crore sales milestone, which comes as no surprise with the scooter’s evergreen popularity. First launched in 2001 it took the brand 15 years to achieve the one crore sales mark, and just seven years thereafter to sell a further two crore units.
When it was first launched, the Activa had no direct competitors, which contributed to its rapid rise in popularity and a respectable sales figure of 55,000 units in the first year. The scooter was initially equipped with a 102cc engine, but increasing demand saw Honda introduce a larger 109.51cc engine in 2008-09, claiming a 15 percent improvement in mileage. Over the years with regular updates, and later with a 125cc version, Honda achieved the one crore sales mark in 2016.
In 2020, the 6G iteration received its biggest overhaul with a tech-laden BS6-compliant engine and telescopic suspension. Now, in 2023, it received minor updates in the form of the BS6.2 emissions compliance and keyless ignition tech. And to reinforce the customers’ trust further, Honda also introduced a generous 10-year warranty package, in April this year.
The Activa’s popularity is set to reach even further heights with the introduction of an electric scooter. The Honda Activa is already a household name, so it’s only logical for the Japanese brand to name its upcoming scooter with the Activa moniker, perhaps the Activa Electric.
