Ducati has launched its second BS6-compliant motorcycle for the Indian market, the Scrambler 1100. It’s available in two variants: 1100 Pro and 1100 Sport Pro, priced at Rs 11.95 lakh and Rs 13.74 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively. That's Rs 1.04 lakh more for the Pro variant and an eye-watering Rs 2.32 lakh more for the Sport Pro -- a lot of money considering the Scrambler 1100 isn’t all that different compared to the previous iteration. All it gets is a greener engine and some minor design and mechanical tweaks. It competes against the Triumph Scrambler 1200.
It's powered by a 1079cc air-cooled, L-twin motor which has been tweaked to put out slightly different power outputs to suit the needs of each variant. As a result, the Pro variant makes better torque for off-road usability, with 90.5Nm at 4750rpm and 84.7PS at 7250rpm. As for the Sport Pro variant, it's more power-hungry, with 85.65PS at 7500rpm and 88Nm at 4750rpm. The engine uses a hydraulically actuated 6-speed transmission with slipper clutch.
Aside from the BS6 update and the new colour schemes, the only visual difference compared to the older model is the exhaust layout which is now stacked on one side. The instrument console remains a fully-digital unit with electronic rider aids such as three riding modes (Active, Journey and City), Ducati Traction Control (DTC), and cornering ABS as standard.
Both variants use the same trellis frame but differ in terms of its suspension set up. The Pro model, for instance, features fully-adjustable Marzocchi USD and a Kayaba monoshock with preload and rebound-adjustability. The Pro Sport comes with Ohlins at both ends with the same degree of adjustability as the Pro model. What remains constant on both models are the Brembo M4.32 monobloc calipers, 17-inch alloy wheels and Pirelli MT60 RS tyres.
Ducati also has the BS6 Multistrada 950 as well as the Multistrada 950 S in the pipeline for India. However, we are yet to hear about the BS6 update for the Ducati's existing lineup of bikes in India.
