The Italian motorcycle manufacturer- Ducati has revealed the 2016 Monster 1200R during the Volkswagen Group Night at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. The new model is not much but a little different from the existing one. However, there is a significant change in its performance figures.
The front of the 2016 Ducati Monster 1200R looks almost similar to its predecessor, while its rear looks quite distinctive. The bike has been built on the same trellis frame retaining the similar masculine fuel tank. If we talk about changes in the bodywork, the front receives a new visor and some fancy carbon fibre elements. However, the tail section has been made much sleeker with an all new tail cowl and new tail lamp. The design of the twin exhaust pipes have also been tweaked and it gets new three-spoke forged alloy wheels.
The 2016 Ducati Monster 1200R retains the same 1198.4cc, liquid-cooled, Testastretta 11° L-Twin engine with 4 Desmodromically actuated valves per cylinder. However, the motor has been tuned to deliver power up to 160hp and torque up to 131.4Nm, which are much higher in comparison to the 145hp and 124.5Nm of its predecessor respectively. If we talk about the weight loss in the new generation bike, it is just around 2 kg lighter. There is no change in the transmission as well, including the 6-speed gearbox it retains the wet multi-plate type clutch with Self-servo action on drive and slipper action on over-run.
Other features of the new Monster 1200R are Ohlins fully adjustable 48mm USD front forks, fully adjustable Ohlins rear monoshock, dual 330mm semi-floating disc brakes at the front, 245mm disc brake at the rear and ABS as standard equipment, which have been retained from the existing version. The tyres of the 2016 model are new and it gets Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP rubber of section 120/70 up front and 200/55 at the rear.
Rivals of the 2016 Ducati Monster 1200R will be same and it will compete with the offerings like BMW S1000R, Aprilia Tuono V4 RR and KTM 1290 Super Duke R.
