Could Honda be working on a 500cc scrambler? We analyse
Rumours of the Honda Rebel 500-based scrambler came to light in November 2019, and this rendering by a news website gives us a clear picture of the Honda CL500 scrambler, and to say the least, it looks promising. The scrambler render suggests that Honda might actually be working on a 500cc urban scrambler, which it could launch sometime next year.
The scrambler is likely to be based on the Honda Rebel 500, which is powered by a 471cc, parallel-twin engine. It produces a strong 46.2PS and 43.2Nm; however, the CL500 could come in a different state of tune, if and when launched. That said, the Rebel 500 does not retail in India, but we do have the Honda CB500X here, which gets the same mill and produces 1PS more than the cruiser.
The design render looks quite fascinating and adopts a retro-style scrambler approach with a circular headlight, turn indicators, rearview mirrors and cluster. It also features a highrise fuel tank with knee grips and a single-piece seat. Additionally, it could get a revised rake angle and a new subframe to morph into a scrambler from a cruiser. The urban scrambler render rolls on 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in block-patterned rubbers.

Apart from that, it’s also reported that while the 500cc will be available in Europe and America, the Asian markets are likely to get a smaller 250cc or 300cc heart. That said, we believe India could get the 500cc version, and it could undercut the CB500X by a fair margin.
If it does come to India, the Honda CL500 scrambler will go up against the Benelli Leoncino 500, Royal Enfield Scram 411 and Yezdi Scrambler.
